This is a rare 1947 Mercury Eight Model 79 M V-8 Convertible Coupe came from a decades-long ownership from a local Connecticut collector who restored the car to a high level winning an AACA junior and Senior Award in the 1990’s. Today the car still looks fantastic, finished in its original and incredibly rare special-order color of Pirate Red with matching leather with tan cloth interior. The top is a power top for ease of operation, and it works as it should with all aspects inspected.
Recent mechanical servicing included a carburetor rebuild, coolant system flushing, changing of all fluids and a brake service. It runs and drives incredibly well. The restoration has held up well and is ready for top down driving this summer. It is tour ready and it still likely ranks as one of the prettiest Mercuries out there.
The interior is in nice restored condition with its original radio, all brightwork & instruments as well as seats and carpeting looking beautiful. All electronics and vacuum accessories work including lights, wipers, instruments, etc.
This Model 79M Convertible Coupe starts instantly, runs, drives and stops exactly as a well-maintained Merc of this era should. It doesn’t pull and is well mannered & predictable in all circumstances.
Under the car is a spotless chassis with no rust or rust repair evident anywhere. The trunk is also spotless with an older spare & jack in place.
The seller states This series 79 Mercury is tour ready and it still likely ranks as one of the prettiest out there.
