Designed by Harley Davidson in the early 1930's, the servi-car was an attempt to increase Harley-Davidson's sales and create more uses for their products.  Servi-cars were often used by automotive dealerships and shops to provide quick mobile service to individuals when needed.  The rear compartment allowed for caring tools and equipment while also providing space to give a stranded motorist a ride.
