This 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is being sold at no reserve. This VW was given to the museum by an estate nearby with the purpose of being sold at auction. Until recently, this vehicle has sat for an extensive period of time in storage having not run under its own power in many years. Owls Head volunteers undertook an analysis check over of all of the systems to return this vehicle to a running condition.
While this VW does run and drive it needs some TLC. The floor pan is very rusty and has a hole near the driver’s side dead pedal. The rockers need rust repair as well. However the car handles normally and has a very nice shifting transmission. The engine has a lot of potential with just a tune up. The convertible top looks good and comes with the original tonneau to cover the top when down. The interior is in otherwise good condition with un-torn seats. The car is electrically sound apart from a speedometer that is constantly rotating.
Owls Head volunteers and staff have driven this vehicle on museum property as part of their sorting out and inspection process. While museum staff have done a great amount of work in resurrecting this vehicle, further attention will be needed to bring this vehicle back to its full driving potential. Overall this car has great potential to be a fun weekend car and is eager to be restored. This car is sold with a title.
