This 1986 Mack RD686S is an extraordinary piece. Currently it has just over 18,000 original miles and is in exceptional original condition, inside and out. It was purchased in 1986 for the Freehold, NJ Fire Department and used to haul a large water tanker to fires when needed. In 2017 it was sold to a collector in Maine, who used very little yet kept it always stored inside and maintained. Since new, this Mack has always been kept inside, cleaned and maintained to a high degree and on inspection of the truck it shows. Under the hood this Mack is powered by a 300hp Maxidyne Diesel engine, with engine brake,and a 5 speed Mack transmission. The truck rides on rear camelback spring suspension and 11R22.5 tires all around, mounted on aluminum wheels. The cab of this truck is amazing. All of the upholstered interior panels and headliner are still in excellent condition. All of the gauges and lights work as intended. The original factory radio works, and the truck also comes with factory option air conditioning. Recently this truck was driven almost 100 miles from Old Town Maine to Owls Head by a well-known gentleman with over 60 years in the trucking industry who commented, “this may be the nicest Mack I’ve ever driven, it’s basically brand new.” A truck like this would be a perfect example for a serious collector of fine trucks for show or for putting back to work. This 1986 R Model Mack, with just over 18,000 original miles, is ready to roll. Original road tractors in this condition with such low miles are virtually impossible to find.
