Ways to Bid

Explore the different ways to bid and choose which is right for you.

Enjoy the auction in person live, on the auction floor. You will experience the sights and sounds of the vehicles as they drive over the auction block. Hear the roar of the engines and the call of the auctioneer as bidders advance their bids. Raise your paddle and become part of the excitement in a way that no other buying experience can offer. Make sure that your paddle is in the air when the auctioneer says SOLD, and recognizes you as the winning bidder!

If you would like to register to be a live bidder, please register onsite at bidder registration when you arrive at the museum, during preview and /or auction days, Wednesday, August 23 through Saturday, August 26.

If you cannot be at the auction but would like to bid with an auction representative who is live on the bidding floor, you can register to be a phone bidder. Once registered, you will get a call from us when the lot that you are interested in is about to cross the auction block. The phone representative will tell you what the current bid is and if you want to bid, they will relay your bid to the auctioneer. If you are the winning bidder, your phone representative will confirm the final price to you and tell the auctioneer your paddle number.

Contingency bids. As a registered phone bidder you have the option of placing a contingency bid. This is simply an absentee bid that you authorize the phone representative to execute in the event that you can not be reached by phone or auction team loses contact with you during the bidding process. If a phone connection has been established in time for bidding on your lot, the phone representative will disregard your contingency bid.

If you cannot be at the auction and phone service is not reliable, consider becoming an absentee bidder. In this case you can register and leave your maximum bid for the auction staff to execute in your absence. Don’t worry, your bid will be handled with the utmost confidentiality. Your bid will be executed competitively, and only the amount of your absentee bid that it takes to win will be used. For example, if you set your maximum bid at $5,000.00 and you have the top bid at $3,500.00, you win the bid for $3,500.00.

Plus 1 option. The plus 1 option is used solely in the event of a tie between you and another bidder. If the auctioneer has a bid from another bidder that is equal to your maximum bid and you select the plus 1 option, you authorize the auctioneer to make one more bid on your behalf to break the tie. If the other bidder keeps on going, you are outbid. If you do not use the plus 1 option, and there is a tie the winning bid will go to the other bidder.

Regardless of how you choose to place your bid, if you have an interest in any of the auction items, leave an absentee bid so you don’t regret missing the chance to win your dream car! We will contact you after the auction if you placed the winning bid.
