This 1966 Chevrolet Nova is a highly sought after SS L-79 4-speed edition. Vehicles like this Chevy II do not come up for sale often. For 1966, the Chevy II Nova underwent a complete restyling by GM into what many consider to be the most desirable look for this classic marque, and with the L-79, a legendary performance package.
A rare beast, this powerful muscle car in a tiny package is highly desirable in the collector muscle car world. This Chevy II Nova SS L-79 features its 327ci/350hp Turbo Fire engine paired with its Muncie 4-speed manual transmission and a 12 bolt rear axle with 3.73 gears. The serial number matches the hidden serial number found under the front fender as shown in the pictures. The engine stamp has the matching sequence number from the serial number as well as the suffix code “ZG” which indicates the L-79 package 4-speed package. The recessed oil filter boss and appropriate casting markings are visible on the engine and speak to the car’s authenticity. Also, this vehicle includes its original warranty card with Protect-O-Plate still in the original warranty book, never removed. Numbers on the Protect-O-Plate match the numbers on the car. Photos of all of these components, numbers and trim tags are in the gallery.
Not many engine and vehicle combinations produced the performance of the Legendary L-79 327ci/350hp in the small light Chevy II Nova. The engine was rebuilt complete with new pistons, connecting rods, and valves. The original crankshaft was inspected, polished and reused. The rear end in this car was rebuilt to original standards.
On the exterior, this Nova SS has been brought down to bare metal and professionally repainted in its original Marina Blue color with a clear coat. New upholstery includes the seas, rugs and headliner. Recently new mag wheels and period correct redline tires were added to compliment the powerful look and performance of this car. Original manuals, owner’s guide, and the original Protect-O-Plate are included with the sale. Vehicle is sold with a title.
