The Maxwell-Briscoe Motor Company was founded in North Tarrytown, New York, by Jonathan Dixon Maxwell, a former Oldsmobile employee, and Benjamin Briscoe, a partner of Briscoe Brothers Metalworks, with funding from J.P. Morgan. It was reorganized as the Maxwell Motor Company in 1913 and taken over in 1920 by Walter P. Chrysler, who absorbed it into his eponymous company in 1925.
