Starting in 2019, volunteers at the Owls Head Transportation Museum began work creating this 1914 Style Ford Model T Express and it is being offered for sale with No Reserve. Over the course of almost two years, volunteers worked together with Museum staff to build a well-crafted vehicle. This project, the third one of its type since 2014, created numerous learning opportunities and a great sense of camaraderie for the workshop volunteers.
This high quality built up Model T began its life as a collection of both spare and donated parts to the Owls Head Transportation Museum. A usable frame was obtained and every component was stripped down, primed and repainted. Every aspect of the chassis was completely rebuilt with the exception of the engine. The engine, an older rebuilt 1923 engine, was provided from a donor vehicle and is in extremely good condition that has been road tested. All of the tires, tubes, and rim flaps are new.
Mounted on the chassis is a wooden express body that was Modeled after a vehicle designed and built by ground vehicle conservator Warren Kincaid in the early 1980’s. Every aspect of this body was built and finished at the Owls Head Transportation Museum’s woodshop by volunteers. Choice grade oak was used for the construction of the body. In the rear, the bedsides are grade A plywood. The front fenders and running boards are very good original pieces, while the rear fenders and splash aprons are correct reproductions. Longtime museum volunteer and well known auto restorer George Sprowl painted the black body pieces. Most hardware and all of the body basketry was made in house. The top material and upholstery are new.
Overall, this Ford is an excellent example of a built up reliable Model T. A great deal of time, dedication, and passion went into its construction and is evidence of the positive difference volunteers made at the Owls Head Transportation Museum. Sold with a registration. NOTE: Registered as a 1914, engine# is 1923.
