This 1938 MG VA Tickford drophead, comes from the widely recognized “Cobb Collection” and is being offered for sale at No Reserve. Dick and Dotty Cobb of Gardiner, Maine developed an enthusiastic love for the MG marque. Their love evolved into a life long passion and led to the creation of one of the finest, most respected MG collections in the United States. It was their wish that their collection come to the Owls Head Transportation Museum for the benefit of the museum and for all to enjoy. During the mid 1930’s, the VA 1.5 litre was the smallest of three models produced by MG as a venture into the larger luxury market to compete with the likes of Jaguar and Bentley. The elegant Tickford drophead design by famed coach-builder Salmon&Sons was one of the most sought after VA body styles of its time and is considered by many to be one of the most highly collectable pre-WWII MG’s. Of the 2,407 VA models manufactured prior to WWII, only 564 were Tickford’s in the drophead style
OHTM volunteers have run it and the brakes work, engine sounds good and gets good oil pressure. We have driven the car to make sure it is a good potential project car.
