Renamed the Biarritz to help separate the Eldorado Convertible from the Seville Hardtop Coupe, the Eldorado Biarritz convertible was considered by many to be the epitome of 1950’s styling and luxury. Features include a shark fin style rear end, skirt-less wheel openings, chrome trim and the distinctive Cadillac emblem over twin blades hood ornament. Standard features included power steering, power windows, power antenna. Rounding out the look are beautiful Sabre wheels. In total, only 2,150 Eldorado Biarritz convertibles were produced for 1956.
According to the consignor, this Cadillac underwent a complete ground-up restoration around 20 years ago by a prior owner and it has been meticulously maintained since. The exterior finish is a cream color with a tan leather interior and a matching tan convertible canvas top. The chassis, undercarriage and engine compartment are well detailed, reflecting a condition of a high quality restoration. Under the hood this Eldorado is powered by a 365ci V8 producing 305hp, a new addition for the 1956 model. Much of this horsepower increase was due to the famous “batwing” air cleaner with twin four-barrel carburetors which were rebuilt in 2021. All of the power is transitioned in a smooth fashion through a four speed Hydramatic automatic transmission. Other options on this vehicle include an EZ Eye glass, Autronic Eye, and a signal seeking AM radio. Safety belts were added for additional safety. A fiberglass parade boot accompanies the convertible. Wrapped around the five correct Sabre wheels are whitewall Coker Classic tires. A copy of the GM Historical Archive is included with the sale. Sold with a title.
