This highly restored 1956 Ford Thunderbird Convertible Custom is powered by a John Mummert Machine 331/400HP V8 “Y-Block” with Tremec 5-speed manual transmission and is part of the MS CLASSIC CARS “NO RESERVE” COLLECTION. After the success of the 1955 Ford Thunderbird very few changes were made to the 1956 model. Those changes included the Continental Kit that placed the spare tire on the rear bumper of the car which provided more trunk space, the now famous “portholes” were offered as options in the fiberglass roof and a second engine option was made available which was the 312 V8. As the original Data plate indicates this example was built on March 16th in Dearborn, MI as a 1956 Ford Thunderbird with a Fiesta Red exterior, Red and White interior and 312 V8 engine. It was shipped to the Atlanta region. The car found its way to Colorado and was the product of a rotisserie nut and bolt professional restoration. Most of the work was completed by well-known Prestige Thunderbird located in Santa Fe Springs, CA. The vision of the build was to keep the gorgeous factory appearance but have modern and high performance features. The mission was accomplished resulting in a very special concours T-bird. Since completion this car has earned the “Senior Car” award through the Classic Thunderbird Club International. The exterior of this T-bird is exceptional in every sense of the word. Exterior details include a hood scoop, hooded headlights, faux fender louvers, tail fins, rear fender skirts and Continental spare wheel assembly mounted above the rear bumper. The body is very straight with excellent gaps throughout. It was re-finished in its original color of Fiesta Red which dresses it well. The deep paint was recently detailed to a show quality shine. It’s been outfitted with a new black soft top that fits nicely. It’s also equipped with a matching hardtop that also fits nicely. A new hardtop stand is included. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced such as all the glass and trim pieces. The T-bird flies on shiny 15” wire wheels that are secured via three-eared knock-off spinners. The wheels are wrapped with BF Goodrich Silverstone white wall 225-70-15 tires. The interior of this T-Bird is also exceptional. It was re-finished in its original color combination of red and white which looks sharp. The red dashboard and door panels were decorated with engine-turned aluminum accents. The three-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 150-mph speedometer, a 5000 rpm tachometer and analog clock. Some of the custom features include auxiliary gauges, Vintage Air Conditioning, Town and Country radio with glovebox mounted Pioneer CD stereo, black carpeted Thunderbird embossed floor mats, shifter with red leather boot and black shift knob. The trunk compartment was beautifully restored with covered with new red carpeting. It’s equipped with a chrome jack assembly. The painted engine compartment is highly detailed throughout. The 312 V8 was stroked to a 331 V8 by John Mummert Machine who’s the authority with “Y-Block” engines. This engine is rated with 400HP. Some of engine upgrades include H-beam chrome moly rods, Ross Pistons, Speed Pro Rings, roller rockers, performance cam, ARP main studs, 57 ECZ-G heads and electronic ignition system. The engine was dressed with finned valve covers, chrome air cleaner and Airtex AW488 aluminum water pump. The engine breathes through custom made ceramic coated headers and a Borla dual exhaust system that sounds sweet. The engine is coupled to a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission that shifts smooth. The power is transferred to the rebuilt Ford 9” rear end. The undercarriage is highly detailed throughout and mirror quality. The frame was painted black and the floors were painted body color. It’s equipped with a Flamming River rack and pinion power steering unit, HD sway bars and front disc brakes. This car has been completely serviced and detailed which is documented with an invoice that’s included.
