When the Ford Mustang debuted in April of 1964, Ford’s new midsize automobile captured the attention of the automotive world. This high performance 1965 Ford Mustang GT Convertible is an extremely fine example of one of the most sought after Mustangs in the collector car market today. A true “K Code” mustang, this GT is powered by the famous Ford HiPo 289. According to the consignor, this GT is a very good example of an extremely well kept older restoration which was completed in 1997. This GT convertible was purchased by the current owner in 2003 and it has always been kept under their ownership in a specially built heated garage for their collection, which includes several high quality Shelby Mustangs. In short, this GT Mustang has been appreciated and cared for by an individual who has a keen eye for classic Mustangs.
A true ‘K Code” car, this Mustang GT is powered by Ford’s famous High Performance (HiPo) 289ci V8 that was factory rated at 271 horsepower paired with a 4 speed manual transmission. On start up this HiPo 289 GT sounds exactly as one would expect, portraying not only a sensation of performance but style as well. Unique to this vehicle option, this Mustang features the correct GT suspension package which includes the front wheel disc brakes. According to the consignor this GT runs and drives extremely well. The odometer reads 38,550 however the consignor notes that it stopped working after they purchased it in 2003 and notes the true mileage as unknown.
While performance was the name of the game for this Mustang GT, it certainly does not lack for styling. On the exterior this Mustang is painted an attractive Rangoon Red that is still more than highly presentable for a well kept older restoration. The body lines are smooth and straight and all of the doors, hood and trunk open and shut cleanly. On the interior, the classic white luxury interior with red trim and carpet compliment the exterior red wonderfully. The interior also features a full complement of gauges and the floor console option. The electric top works as it should and the top is still in excellent condition, matching the overall condition of the car.
Overall, high quality older restoration true ‘K Code” HiPo 289ci Mustang GT convertibles of this quality are not easy to find. Classic Mustangs such as this would be a welcome addition to any collector’s stable and will be offered for sale Without Reserve. Sold with a registration.
