In 1964, General Motors released the new “A-Body” platform to their subsidiaries. Oldsmobile took advantage of the new platform to update the Jetfire model. They gave the car a radical new look, moved the car up a size class, and gave it a new name: Cutlass. The Cutlass competed well with the Tempest and the Chevelle of the same platform, however Pontiac’s new GTO encroached onto the Cutlass. Oldsmobile’s response was the 4-4-2. Olds upgraded the Cutlass with a 400ci v8 engine, 4 barrel carburetor, and 2 (dual) exhaust, hence 4-4-2. The 4-4-2 package was a huge success for the Cutlass and remains an iconic muscle car today.
In 1967 this Cutlass Supreme was bought new in Boston Massachusetts with the complete 4-4-2 package: 400ci engine, 4-speed, and dual exhaust. The original buyer special ordered the car with several other options as well including a 12-bolt posi rear end, the special “Rally Pack” Gauge Cluster, SS-1 wheels, and a convertible top. The car was very well maintained over the years; only 3 owners on the books and 38k miles on the clock.
This Cutlass’ current owner has performed a multitude of work to preserve this muscle car. The original engine was refreshed with new gaskets and given new timing gears to replace the factory nylon-tooth gears. A completely new clutch assembly was installed, improving clutch feel and drivability. A new, OEM correct, dual exhaust with correct chambered tailpipes was installed as well. The interior was completely redone as well as the convertible top. The brake lines, fuel lines, u joints, wheels cylinders, and brake shoes are all new and correct to the car. The original SS-1 wheels that came with the car off the dealer’s lot were preserved and come with the car as well.
As the 4-4-2 sits now, This is one of the best 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 4-4-2s that anyone can find on the market today. The Midnight Blue paint that coats the exterior of the vehicle is in great condition. The car rolls on classic 5-spoke chrome wheels wrapped BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires. The convertible top folds and works as it should with a clean interior underneath. A well running 400ci V8, a smooth shifting 4 speed transmission, and an amazing sounding dual exhaust honor the 4-4-2 badge on the grille. Included with this Cutlass is the original 1967 dealer paperwork, tax forms, build sheet when the vehicle was bought and the aforementioned SS-1 wheels. A registration is included as well.
