Those who follow the classic car/truck market likely realize that the so-called"Square Bodies" arevery popular. The term comes from the squared-off styling of the 1973 through 1987 Chevrolet/GMC pickups, what many consider to be the proper look for a pickup truck. In this realm, the preferred body type is a standard cab with a short bed, giving thepickup a stout, muscle truck vibe.

Those who follow the classic car/truck market likely realize that the so-called”Square Bodies” arevery popular. The term comes from the squared-off styling of the 1973 through 1987 Chevrolet/GMC pickups, what many consider to be the proper look for a pickup truck. In this realm, the preferred body type is a standard cab with a short bed, giving thepickup a stout, muscle truck vibe.
Here we have a Square Body, specifically a 1987 Chevrolet K10 Silverado short bed 4×4. This
short box Chevrolet pickup received a no expense spared frame-off restoration. Highlights
include all new glass, chrome bumpers, front grille, taillights, emblems. There are also newroof drip rails, though they haven’t yet been installed. The body panels are arrow-straight and the high-qualityrespray looksfantastic.
Underneath, the suspension and brakes were completely refurbished, including new Bilstein shocks, new springs, new brake and fuel lines, new exhaust system and new gas tanks. The underside and frame are so clean this pristine pickup earns our “Lasagna Car/Truck”
designation, meaning it’s so clean under there that we’d eat our Sunday pasta dinner off of it. .
Under thesquared-off hood is a new GM crate motor: a 5.7 liter (350 cubic-inch) long block that we updated with a Holley “Sniper” fuel injectionsystem. It’s more modern and reliable than an old-fashioned 4-barrel carburetor. The automatic transmission was also rebuilt as was the 4×4 transfer case. The K10 is equipped with power steering and power front disc brakes.
Back then, the “Silverado” moniker stood for the top trim level, before ti later became the
actual model name for Chevy’s full-size pickup line. As such, the interior ofthis truck is plush
and nearlyevery option was checked off as it has air conditioning (converted to R134), tilt steering wheel, cruise control, power windows, power locks, an AM/FM stereo, full instruments and a sliding rear window.
Looking like a page out of the 1987 Chevy truck brochure, the interior was completely restored. Highlights include a new dash pad, door panels, carpet, trim, clock, gauges, hardware, and weather stripping. Al the brushed aluminum accents are new as well. Everything works, even the clock and the key buzzer.
Out on the road, thisamazing pickup runs and drives as good as it looks, as only test miles have been added since the nut-and-bolt restoration. If you’re looking for one of the best examples of later Square Body, then you’ll want to check this one out.
