With its sharp styling, 5.7-liter “LS1” V8 sporting (an underrated) 305 horsepower, athletic handling, and available T top roof, the later fourth-generation Pontiac Firebird Trans Am cranks up the fun factor to “11”. The performance of these cars was certainly impressive with the ability to blast down the quarter mile in the mid-13-second range. That’s quicker than most of the popular muscle cars of the ‘60s and ‘70s. A sport-tuned suspension and big, four-wheel disc brakes mean the Trans Am also boasts nimble handling and strong braking.
Here we have a 1999 Trans Am with that potent V8 paired to an automatic transmission. The body features the T top roof, is in fantastic condition and is accented with custom engraving on the side windows as well as the optional 16-inch chrome wheels that are fitted with Falken high-performance tires.
Inside, the leather upholstery with multi-adjustable sport seats is in very good condition, as is the whole interior. Of course, the Trans Am has power windows/locks/mirrors as well as a power driver seat, A/C, tilt steering wheel and cruise control. The original, upgraded AM/FM/CD audio system complete with graphic equalizer is still in the car.
With just 70k miles on the odometer, this Trans Am runs and handles great. The factory exhaust provides a proper muscle car soundtrack when you lean on it yet is fairly quiet when you’re just cruising around.
This ‘bird checks all the boxes as it’s in great shape, doesn’t have a ton of miles, has the T top and is of course a blast to drive. If you get your kicks driving a spirited sports car and don’t want to spend big bucks, it’s hard to beat this Trans Am.
